Dear Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid:
Last week the American people went to the polls and demanded a change. After eight years of corrupt and incompetent leadership, we now have an opportunity to move our country forward and make our government work for the American people again.
I ask that in the first 100 days of the next government you:
- Ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to work for a decent, living wage;
- Enact common-sense financial regulations that protect the savings and investments of honest Americans against corporate greed;
- Bring a responsible end to the War in Iraq, engage in robust diplomacy and reserve the use of military force only as a last resort to defend our nation;
- Care for our veterans and military families;
- Ensure that all Americans have access to the same quality health care that members of congress enjoy;
- Aggressively fight climate change by investing in renewable energy solutions, reducing the release of greenhouse gases by industrial plants and increasing CAFE standards in/for automobiles;
- Defend our wildlife, national parks and public lands by restoring environmental protections stripped away by the Bush Administration;
- Give every American child the opportunity to succeed in school by investing in early childhood education and expanding SCHIP;
- Make college affordable for any student that has the grades and is willing to provide national service;
- Support the civil rights for all people regardless of their gender, race, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation or disability.
These policies will begin to rebuild faith in our government and will help restore our place as a leader to the world community. I look forward to your leadership on these positions and the resulting legislation in the 111th Congress.
Sincerely,
